The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide (IPC306) and criminal conspiracy(IPC 120 B) against 7 persons-Amarinder Singh(Muktsar),Gurpreet Singh(Kotkapura),Surjeet Singh, his wife Anu Bala,Jaibir Singh,Pankaj Khokhar(all from Amritsar) and Tarsem Singh(Muktsar) on the complaint of Simarjeet Kaur wife of Sampuran Singh, resident of village Mallan Wala Kadim of Ferozpur district.
The case has been registered at sadar police station of Faridkot.
Simarjeet Kaur had lodged a complaint in this regard with Faridkot police that his son, Harbhajan Singh was known to,now accused no 2,Gurpreet Singh from Kotkapura town of Faridkot.
“The accused no 2 to 7 ran a travel business of sending the people abroad. Gurpreet Singh asked Harbhajan Singh if someone known to him wanted to go abroad, he would facilitate that person.Now the accused no 1, who was also known to the deceased was an aspirant to go abroad. Harbhajan Singh worked as middleman between the accused no 1 and rest of the others and a deal was settled of Rs 1225051. The accused no one paid the amount to the others but they failed to send him abroad and did not return his money. The accused no 1 started harassing the deceased and threatened him to get a case registered against him. Disturbed over his harassment, Harbhajan Singh, who was selected as constable in Punjab police, shot himself dead with his service revolver on August 21,2021,” reads the police statement by the complainant.
“Earlier, the family was deeply shocked and upset and so the case proceeded under section 374 of CrPC. So later on , after some time, the family stabilized and lodged a complaint with the Faridkot police, said Chamkaur Singh, assistant sub inspector who is IO in the case.
So the case has been registered after about a nearly 2 years delay.
The case has been registered after through investigation on the legal advice of the district attorney and on the instructions of SSP Faridkot.
Harbhajan Singh committed suicide on August 21,2021.
