Shahkot subdivision police have booked six manufactures of illegally modified motorcycle-driven “jugaarreharris” operating on roads in the region for violating government orders.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarwann Singh said the accused have been identified as MandeepSingh Manna son of Tarsem Lal a resident of Bahmannia village ,Manwindarjit Singh son of Gurmej Lal a resident of Model Town Shahkot ,Rajindar Singh alias Jindar son of Kashmir Singh a resident of Khiva village under Nakodar Sadar police station, Kewal Singh son of Bhagat Singh a resident of Killi village and Harbhajan Singh alias Jagga son of Dalip Singh a resident of Madi Pura village in Ludhiana ,Satnam Singh alias Sanni son of Balwant Singh a resident of Harti Pur village under Mehat Pur police station DSP said that the accused were manufacturing of illegally modified motorcycle-driven “jugaar reharris” and were selling these and violating orders of Punjab Transport Department and Special Director General of Police Traffic Road Safety Punjab which have banned manufacturing of these vehicles ,
DSP cases under sections 223-B(disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the BNShave been registered against the accused in Shahkot and Mehat Pur police stations and further investigations are on.
DSP said that during recent checking drives, police intercepted several jugaar vehicles being used for transporting goods and passengers in violation of transport and road safety norms. Officials said these makeshift vehicles, often fabricated by attaching reharris or carts to motorcycles, are not authorised under motor vehicle regulations and pose danger to commuters due to lack of registration, insurance and safety features.
