Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned all Punjab Deputy Commissioners and SSPs on issue of delay in acquisition of land for major NHAI projects in the state.
A bench comprising Justice Sureshwar Thakur and Justice Kuldeep Tiwari issued orders hearing petions filed by National Highways Authority Indian (NHAI)in this regard. Bench directed all officers to come along with affidavits stating what steps they have taken to ensure land acquisition by NHAI smoothly. Court was hearing petitions by NHAI over delay in land acquisition for major projects including Delhi-Katra Expressway.
NHAI has claimed that it has already paid compensation to farmers but still land was not handed over to it by them and they are protesting land acquisition.
High Court has directed all DCs and SSPs to be physically present in the court on April 4, 2025.
