The Lohian Khas police have booked two miscreants on the charges of creation, publication, or circulation of false information, rumours, or reports intended to cause public mischief, fear, or alarm in connection with the death of ASI Puran Singh .
Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarwann Singh said that the accused have identified themselves as representatives of Sher -E-Punjab media Brigade Bahadar Singh Sandhu and Gurlal Singh (Gill Shahkot)
DSP said they have claimed in a leaflet that they had murdered assistant sub inspector Puran Singh posted at Shahkot police station on May18 in Lohian Khas area who was killed in a road accident.
DSP said the Lohian khas police had booked an unidentified vehicle driver on the charge of killing a police officer assistant sub inspector Puran Singh was serving at Shahkot police station
in an accident.
Baldev Singh a resident of Gatta Mundi Kasu Basti Bhane Wal village under Lohian Khas police station had complained to the police that his father was returning home after performing his duty on May 18 late evening when an unidentified vehicle driver who was driving fast and negligently hit his father’s motorcycle resulting in his death.
DSP said a case under sections 106-A (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving on public roads) and 125-A (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS was registered against the unidentified accused.
DSP said that the accused claimed that ASI Puran Singh was harassing families in areas and issued warning to police officers that if they do not stop killing youth in fake encounters, they will murder them in their way and do not need firearms, and traditional sharp-edged weapons are sufficient in acting against erring police officers. They asked persons serving in army and police to leave jobs.
They asked residents to send information regarding torture by police officers.
DSP said a case under section 353 (2) (statements spread via social media or other electronic methods that incite public disorder, encourage mutiny in the armed forces, or promote enmity between communities.) of the of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the accused and further investigations are on.
It is pertinent to mention here that some vernacular newspapers had published news that ASI Puran Singh was murdered on May 18.
