JALANDHAR
A three days training course from 19-21 March on Protected Cultivation of Vegetables was
organized at Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Kartarpur. On third
concluding day of training Deputy Director Horticulture, Jalandhar Dr. Narinder Kalsi told that
the centre is gaining importance among farmers day by day. In this training 40 farmers from 14
districts participated adding that more than 1600 farmers have been trained by this centre which is diversifying their farming from traditional method to new technology. He said that training on production of disease-free vegetable seedlings, open field production of
vegetables, Polyhouse production _of vegetables and Post Harvest Management is being provided
to the farmers. Dr. Daljit Singh Gill Assistant Director-Cum Controlling Officer, Centre of
excellence Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, told that farmers can earn profit of Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 from one Kanal covered area (500 s .f.) if they adopt new technologies in their fields. He told
that new technologies are being shown to farmers s through live demonstrations. He claimed that till date more than 2.33 crore healthy disease-free vegetable seedlings are also supplied to the Punjab farmers and interested ones for kitchen gardening.
During three-day training session experts from Haryana Dr. S K Arora, and from Department of Horticulture Punjab Dr. Tejbir Singh, Dr. Tripat Kumar, Dr. Vikram Verma and Mrs Shelly Sandhu lectured on different subjects related to vegetable, nursery.
